Doctors have told him he needs to rest body and mind and there's no safe haven with a crowd and certainly not in the bench area.As expected, San Diego linebacker Shawne Merriman is inactive with an Achilles problem. He has practiced very little since being hurt in mid-August. Larry English is expected to start at linebacker. Backup quarterback Billy Volek is active.
